From September 19 to 22, 2026, FUNTI exhibited at the 24th China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition (CIMAMotor 2026) at the Chongqing International Expo Center — Asia's largest national-level motorcycle trade exhibition, a 170,000-square-metre show floor hosting more than 1,000 exhibitors from China, the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, France and beyond. FUNTI brought two models to Chongqing: the mid-to-large AXION and the mid-size VELOCE. Both are driven by planetary gear reduction hub motors — the drivetrain architecture FUNTI has standardised across its mid and large electric scooter platforms.
The distinction between a direct-drive hub motor and a geared hub motor is where the two Chongqing displays converge. A direct-drive hub turns at road speed, so torque has to come from a large, heavy motor or from high current through the controller. A planetary — epicyclic — reduction set lets the motor spin fast, where a permanent-magnet synchronous machine is at its most efficient, while the wheel turns slowly with multiplied torque.
The practical results show up on the road and on the service sheet. Stronger launch and climbing with a rider, a passenger and a load; lower current draw for a given road speed, which means less heat in the windings and a longer motor life; and a smaller, lighter motor for the same wheel torque, which keeps unsprung mass and total vehicle weight down. For export markets where the electric two-wheeler earns its keep as a delivery or commuter tool, that combination matters more than the last few km/h of top speed.
AXION is FUNTI's mid-to-large platform, a fully streamlined PCX-class scooter with front and rear hydraulic disc brakes and a hydraulic fork paired with dual rear shock absorbers. It is positioned for markets where a rider expects the visual presence and seat comfort of a premium gasoline scooter, with the running costs of an electric one. VELOCE takes the mid-size slot: 1920 × 740 × 1150 mm, a 72V 40Ah lithium pack feeding a 3 kW rated / 6.5 kW peak hub motor through a 90A CANBUS controller, 80 km/h top speed and 100 km of range measured at a 45 km/h cruise — a riding-condition figure rather than a marketing best case.
| Model | Segment | Drivetrain | Key Specifications |
|---|---|---|---|
| AXION | Mid-to-large, PCX-class | Planetary gear reduction hub motor | Full-coverage streamlined bodywork; front & rear hydraulic disc brakes; hydraulic fork + dual rear shocks |
| VELOCE | Mid-size | Planetary gear reduction hub motor | 72V 40Ah lithium; 3 kW rated / 6.5 kW peak; 90A CANBUS controller; 80 km/h; 100 km at 45 km/h; 12-inch wheels; CBS disc brakes; IP67; approx. 4 h charge |
Detailed specification sheets, including the full battery and performance configuration of AXION, are available to distributors and fleet buyers on request.
CIMAMotor has become a two-part exhibition: traditional combustion motorcycle brands in one half, and the electric supply chain — motors, controllers, battery cells and packs, telematics and swapping infrastructure — in the other. For a manufacturer like FUNTI, the second half is where the interesting conversations happen, because the component makers now set the pace of what a mid-market electric scooter can promise.
Two shifts were visible. First, battery suppliers are moving down into two- and three-wheelers. Tier-one cell and pack makers that previously served storage and automotive programmes are now exhibiting motorcycle-specific packs with CAN communication, wider operating temperature windows and higher ingress protection. That is good news for buyers: more qualified suppliers competing on the same specification sheet means better pricing and better traceability for the pack, which is the single largest cost item in an electric scooter.
Second, drivetrain suppliers are consolidating around geared platforms. The show floor is full of planetary-reduction hub motors and integrated reduction gearboxes positioned on torque and duty cycle rather than top speed — a signal that the export market has settled on what an electric two-wheeler is actually for: daily work, in heat, with a load, on imperfect roads.
"The two models we brought to Chongqing answer the question our distributors ask first: what happens when you put a passenger and a hill in front of it. Planetary gear reduction is how we answer that without pricing ourselves out of the mid-market. What we took away from the show is that the supply chain behind that answer is getting stronger every year." — FUNTI Export Sales Department
