Leading Bangladeshi Industrial Group Visits FUNTI to Test Ride NEXUS and CCA

On October 23, 2026, FUNTI received a delegation led by the chairman of one of Bangladesh’s leading industrial groups at its headquarters and manufacturing base in Taizhou, Zhejiang, China. The delegation came to examine two FUNTI models in detail and ride both on the factory test route: the NEXUS urban scooter and the CCA long-range flagship.

The Group Behind the Visit

The delegation came from one of the country’s established conglomerates: 26 companies, six of them joint ventures and three publicly listed, with interests spanning automobiles, cement, paper, sugar, luggage, insurance, leasing, real estate, electronics and transport.

Its automotive arm has assembled and distributed vehicles for a major Indian commercial vehicle brand since 1990, running CKD assembly for cars at two plants and bus and truck bodybuilding at a third — a combination few players in the market can match: import, assembly, its own dealer network and after-sales reach under one roof.

The group’s chairman, who led the visit, has run the business since 1981. An economics graduate of Oxford, he is a former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the country’s apex trade body, and founder president of two industry associations covering Indo-Bangladesh trade and automobile assembly.

The group has also put capital behind electric mobility: a joint venture with an Indian electric three-wheeler maker, and a Tk 350 crore electric vehicle plant planned for 20,000 units a year. This is not a distributor testing a category from a distance. It is an industrial group that already assembles vehicles, already builds bodies, and is already investing in local electric production.

Two Models, Two Market Questions

The NEXUS answers the daily-commute question. A 72V 40Ah battery, a 1.5 kW rated / 4 kW peak hub motor, 60 km/h top speed and 100 km of range, carried on 14-inch wheels with front and rear disc brakes: a mid-size scooter built for traffic, response and low running cost.

The CCA answers the distance question. Dual 72V 40Ah batteries, a 5 kW motor, 100 km/h top speed and a range of up to 200 km, with ABS and a more substantial body: FUNTI’s long-range flagship, aimed at riders who count kilometres rather than trips.

Riding both on the same day is the most direct way to compare them. The NEXUS rewards quick steering and light inputs; the CCA asks for a steadier hand and gives back stability, wind protection and composure at speed. For a group deciding how to position electric two-wheelers across different segments, that contrast is the useful part of the visit.

Inside the Manufacturing Base

The delegation moved through the production floor rather than staying in the showroom. It saw how the assembly area is organised, how CKD packs are prepared for export, and where quality control sits in the sequence between component preparation and final testing. For a group that already assembles vehicles in Bangladesh, those details are not background — they are the basis for judging whether a supplier can hold a specification across batches and support a dealer network after the first shipment.

The discussion then turned to configuration: battery and charger specification, braking and tyre choices, sticker sets, packaging and the division of work between CKD supply and local assembly. Each change carries a cost and a lead time, and the earlier both sides put numbers against them, the fewer surprises there are at the order stage.

Why a Visit at This Level Matters

Bangladesh is not a niche for two-wheelers. Motorcycles and scooters carry a large share of daily personal mobility, and the policy environment has been shifting in favour of electric drivetrains. Under the government’s 2026/27 budget, import taxes on EVs are being cut while the overall tax burden on petrol and diesel vehicles rises; chargers and charging infrastructure are being exempted; locally assembled EVs receive a lower VAT rate; and the government has set a target of 30% of the market to be electric by 2030.

When an industrial group of this standing takes the time to ride the product and examine the production line, it signals that electric two-wheelers are being assessed as a strategic category rather than a side line. That is a more meaningful endorsement than a price enquiry. It also raises the bar: a group with its own assembly operations, dealer network and certification experience will expect a supplier to match its standards on documentation, spare parts and after-sales support.

Market Insight

Policy shifts look slow until they are sudden. Bangladesh spent years treating electric vehicles as a curiosity; it has now put tax policy behind them. That does not create demand by itself — it removes the reason to wait. The distributors who benefit are rarely the ones who moved first for its own sake, but the ones who had already settled their product line, spare parts and service capability when the market turned.

A Partnership, Not a One-Off Order

The visit closed with a defined work list: confirm the configuration of each model for Bangladeshi roads and climate, agree the documentation and certification support package, and prepare the spare-parts and after-sales material a dealer network needs before launch. FUNTI’s role is to provide the product platform, CKD kits, technical file and service material; the partner’s role is market access, local assembly and after-sales reach.

That division of work is what turns a promising product into a product a distributor can stand behind. FUNTI thanks the delegation for its time and for the seriousness it brought to the visit, and looks forward to continuing the discussion on that basis.

“When a group of this standing takes the time to ride the product and walk the line, the conversation moves from price to capability. That is the conversation we want to be in.” — FUNTI Export Sales Department
